Greece, EU: Troika report may be postponed to October

Il Troika report on the state of Greek public finances could only be ready in early October. Simon O'Connor, spokesman for the European Commissioner for Monetary Affairs, said at the press conference, Olli Rehn. The verdict of the EU, IMF and ECB inspectors (who will arrive in the Greek capital between 5 and 6 September) was initially expected for the end of next month, in time for the Eurogroup meeting on 8 October.

“The Troika – explained O'Connor – will return to Athens at the beginning of September to begin the final phase of the first review of the second program for Greece”. As for the completion of the report, O'Connor added that "the mission will take several weeks and it is not possible to say whether it will end at the end of September or at the beginning of October: in this phase everything will depend on progress on the ground".

The payment of a new tranche of funds for 31,5 billion depends on the Troika report. Aid that Greece badly needs to avoid insolvency.
