Greece: Eurogroup skips, aid to Athens blocked

Greece approved the package of sacrifices imposed by the troika on Sunday night, but it is still not enough. At least not for Brussels, which has decided to postpone the Eurogroup meeting scheduled for this afternoon. This was announced yesterday evening by President Jean Claude Juncker. EU ministers will hold a simple teleconference, moreover without taking any decision on Athens, which instead awaited the launch of the new 130 billion euro tranche of aid. A fundamental sum to avoid the default of the Greek country, which at the moment does not have the means to repay the bonds due in mid-March.

"I have not received from the leaders of the coalition parties in government the required political assurances on the application of the plan" established by the troika, wrote Juncker. “More technical work is needed, including debt sustainability analysis. We still have to find the 325 million” for 2012. Money that will probably come from new machete blows on pensions, as seems to have been established in a Council of Ministers held last night by the Greek government. By which time it was too late to convince Europe.
