Greece, an austerity plan? "No problem"

"I am sure that Greece will be able to take the necessary measures." The EU commissioner for economic and monetary affairs, Olli Rehn, flaunts confidence, who suddenly seems to have regained confidence in the Athens Parliament, called to approve the austerity measures necessary for the granting of the next tranche of EU IMF aid. "The alternative, default - continues Rehn - is so much worse that it is now in the country's interest to work on finalizing the package and thus avoid insolvency".

Bright hopes also from those directly involved: the Greek Executive "doesn't foresee any problems" for the payment of the fifth tranche of the loan from the IMF and the EU at the beginning of July. This was announced by a source in the Ministry of Finance, who said she was "confident in Parliament's approval of this plan", on 28 June. Meanwhile, according to Commissioner Rehn, today the Eurogroup should reach an agreement on the details of the permanent rescue mechanism (ESM) for the countries of the monetary union. In addition to an agreement on the future ESM, there should also be an agreement on strengthening the financial options of the current EFSF rescue fund.
