Greece: no agreement in the Eurogroup, extraordinary political summit on Monday

Another black smoke on the Greece case. Yesterday's Eurogroup in Luxembourg ended with yet another stalemate between international creditors and Athens. This was confirmed via Twitter by the vice president of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, announcing that the ministers of the Eurozone are ready to meet again on Monday and that Greece has been given "a strong signal to commit seriously".

At the end of the Eurogroup, the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, convened an extraordinary summit limited to the countries of the Eurozone on Greece for Monday 22 June at 19 pm. "In light of the outcome of today's meeting of the Eurogroup - he wrote in a note – I have decided to convene the Eurosummit for Monday the 22nd at 19 pm. It is time to urgently discuss the situation in Greece at the highest political level”. The heads of state and government will therefore decide, with the finance ministers in the background.

The parties are unable to reach an agreement on the reforms that the Greek country will have to launch in exchange for the release of the last tranche of aid, the 7,2 billion installment agreed in February. Without these resources, Greece will not be able to service its debts due in June to the International Monetary Fund, which are worth a total of 1,6 billion euros.

In the last three days more than 2 billion euros have been withdrawn from Greek current accounts and there is a risk of a bank lockout as early as Monday. Meanwhile, tax revenues fell 24% lower than forecast in May. The budget surplus (1,5 billion) was made possible by the suspension of all state payments, except salaries and pensions.
