Greece, not even Venizelos manages to form a government

The radical Syriza party opposed the pro-European government and Venizelos failed to form a grand coalition – Today the meeting with the President of the Republic – More and more probable new elections in June.

Greece, not even Venizelos manages to form a government

The conservative Antonis Samaras tried and failed. The radical Alexis Tsipras was succeeding, but in the end New Democracy turned against him. For the Pasok of Evangelis Venizelos it almost seemed done but so did he he has failed to build a coalition government capable of bringing together those who support the reforms imposed by Europe and those who clamor for an end to austerity.

Yesterday evening the former finance minister announced that he had not been able to form the new government due to the opposition of the radical leader Alexis Tsipras. The inclusion of Syriza in the coalition was the sine qua non condition for also obtaining the support of the democratic Left, which obtained 19 seats in Parliament. The young radical leader had already announced that I am not willing to support governments that want to implement the austerity measures agreed with the Troika.

Today Venizelos will meet the President of the Republic, Karolos Papoulias. A recourse to new elections in June therefore appears increasingly probable.
