Greece: the troika leaves Athens and Venizelos promises new cuts

Outright dismissal of 30 state employees, further cuts in pensions and salaries. Greece will continue with the blood and tears measures it promised to its creditors. Word of Evangelos Venizelos, Greek Finance Minister.

"We will do what needs to be done and we will do it by the end of October," Venizelos said in an interview with Greek television, reiterating that there is sufficient liquidity in Athens' coffers to survive until mid-November.

Meanwhile, the meeting of the country's executive and the Troika, the committee made up of inspectors from the IMF, the ECB and the EU, which concludes its mission today, has just ended. The representatives of the Community institutions will have to assess the conditions of the Greek economy and, on the basis of their report, Brussels will decide whether or not to grant Greece the sixth tranche of aid worth 8 billion euros.

"Now we expect a rescheduling of the repayment program to creditors," Venizelos explained. The minister also specified that the government "will accept any proposal that improves the decisions of July 21, provided that there are no high risks and that Greece remains in the euro".
