Greece, the government releases EFSF funds: 18 billion to 4 banks

A breath of fresh air for the Greek banking system. The four largest institutions in the country today received 18 billion from the government in Athens. The resources come from the EFSF state-saving fund and have finally been released by the Executive, which had committed itself to this after the decisive measures established last week by the ECB. On May 16, the Eurotower had decided to exclude undercapitalised Greek banks from the regular refinancing auctions.

The news was confirmed to the AFP agency by an EFSF source: "We have given the order to send the money, ie to complete the procedure", said the source. In detail, the Greek National Bank, the number one in the country, obtained 7,43 billion euros, while 1,9 billion went to the Alpha bank. Another 3,97 billion ended up in the coffers of Eurobank, finally 4,7 billion to the Bank of Piraeus. All in the form of bonds, as decided by the Central Bank of Athens.
