Greece out of recession in 2014

Land in sight for Greece. According to the Hellenic Central Bank, Athens will emerge from the recession in 2014. The institution expects growth of 0,5% in the coming year and a 1% drop in the unemployment rate which currently stands at 25,5%.
To support the recovery, exports and a stabilization of consumption.

The governor of the Hellenic Central Bank Giorgos Provopoulos, points out the Greek newspaper in English eKathimerini, however warned the Parliament that the Greek recovery program is "still fragile" due to the risks associated with political uncertainty.

Provopoulos has asked the government to carry out structural reforms to support the economy and avoid the imposition of new taxes as a way to recover resources.

"Safeguarding the results painstakingly achieved so far is a national necessity, as is strengthening the nation's growth potential," said the head of the institute.

The polarized political climate, according to Provopoulos, would jeopardize the recovery. This is why he has asked the political forces to work together to get out of the crisis and to implement structural reforms.
For the governor, the government will have to fight tax evasion and cut public sector costs to meet the tax targets set by international creditors.
