GREECE AND ITALY – Tsipras today in Rome is looking for support in Renzi to break the isolation

The Greek premier Alexis Tsipras arrives today in Italy to meet the Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, and the new Head of State, Sergio Mattarella.

The purpose of the visit is to present the proposals of the new Greek government to loosen the austerity imposed on Greece by the Troika and to restructure the debt of Athens, of which Italy is 40 billion euros, the third creditor

But above all Tsipras is looking for allies to soften Chancellor Merkel's Germany and, in agreement with Europe, overcome the Troika by talking directly only with the European institutions, as the president of the European Commission, Juncker, also seems inclined to concede.

Renzi, as he already declared yesterday, will listen carefully and openly to his interlocutor with the aim of include the Greek case in the battle for a new and different European economic policy. The Italian Premier was the promoter of the turnaround in Europe but he will certainly be careful not to break ties with Germany and with Merkel, with whom he also spoke yesterday.

The new Greek finance minister, the falcon, will also be in Rome today Varoufakis, who will have a working lunch with our Minister of the Economy, Pier Carlo Padoan.
