Eurotower executive member sets stakes for discussion with Greece after Alexis Tsipras win

Greece, Coeuré (ECB): "No debt cut, but yes rescheduling"

Greece must play by the rules of the European game and keep its debt payment commitments, but this does not rule out a discussion on rescheduling. This was stated by the member of the executive board of the European Central Bank Benoit Coeuré, in the aftermath of the victory for Syriza's Greek policies, whose leader, Alexis Tsipras, has announced that he has no intention of respecting the agreements with the troika of international creditors, made up of the European Union, the ECB and the Monetary Fund.

“He has to pay, these are the European rules of the game”, Coeuré said in an interview with the Europe 1 radio station. “There is no room for unilateral action in Europe, which does not exclude a discussion, for example, on the rescheduling of the debt,” he added. Coeuré also reiterated that the new sovereign debt purchase program launched by the central bank will be successful, but it may need to be expanded.
