In 2013, Greece recorded a primary surplus of 1,5 billion euros, equal to 0,8% of GDP, a figure "far above the target" set with the EU. This was announced, through a spokesperson, by the European Commission.

In the year in question, the budget surplus recorded by Athens was 3,4 billion if the financial aid paid to the banks is excluded from the calculation. This data, published by Eurostat, confirms the initial estimates provided by the Greek statistical service (Elstat).
