Intesa Sanpaolo skyscraper: it is the most sustainable in Europe

The Intesa Sanpaolo Skyscraper, headquarters of the group's management center in Turin, is theunique in Europe to have obtained the Leed Platinum certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and in the category "new buildings” both in the category “sustainable building management". The Green Building Council, the most authoritative international body for the eco-evaluation of buildings, has awarded the skyscraper the second recognition for the continuity given to solutions and good practices taken in the construction. The tower designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop obtained 85 points, thus exceeding the threshold necessary to reach the most prestigious level. This is thanks to the effective actions taken for energy efficiencysustainable water consumptionmaterials management of resources,  employee habits negli commuting from home to work andindoor environmental conditions, such as lighting and air quality.

Intesa Sanpaolo communicates it on the day when climate day is celebrated at the UN. The skyscraper - specifies a press release from the banking group - is powered exclusively by electric energy coming from certified renewable sources and 1.600 square meters of photovoltaic panels installed on the south facade; moreover 80% of the lighting è led. In normal operation the skyscraper it has no polluting emissions.

In the east and west parts of the building two glass walls about 2,5 meters apart form the so-called double skin, an "active" facade among the largest in the world, managed by a centralized system that regulates the opening and closing of the external laminated glass. Asensor network detects the different daily and seasonal climatic conditions, reducing heat loss in the rooms in winter and dissipating the heat accumulated between the two windows in summer.

The heat pump heating and cooling system does not use traditional fuels e exploits the thermal energy of the groundwater. THE'rain water, collected in special tanks, feeds both the irrigation network of the green areas and the flush tanks of the bathrooms. The lighting system internal adjusts the intensity of the sources depending on the amount of natural light and the presence of people. Terminal systems a radiant panels suspended from the ceiling and micro-perforated used for air conditioning, they allow for excellent environmental comfort to be obtained.
