Government, clear up. Renzi: "Not at all crisis"

At the request of President Mattarella, the former premier changes pace and removes the risk of a government crisis: "The episode of the Constitutional Affairs Commission of the Senate is serious and unpleasant but we cannot go back to the language of the First Republic"

The Quirinale cools tensions, Renzi changes pace and the risks of a government crisis are receding. At least for now. "What a crisis" says the former prime minister accepting the invitation to moderation from the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.

“The episode of the Constitutional Affairs Commission of the Senate is serious and unpleasant and will not remain without consequences but we cannot go back to the language of the First Republic. We don't want to hear the word government crisis pronounced and we don't want to use it as Ncd and Mdp do” adds Matteo Renzi in reference to the sensational rejection of the candidate of the Pd for the presidency of the Constitutional Affairs Commission of the Senate which remains a crucial junction for the next law election and which will be occupied, barring new surprises and thanks to the support of the opposition, by the Sicilian senator Salvatore Torrisi, in turn disavowed by the secretary of his party (Ap), Minister Alfano, who was unable to obtain his resignation and is left with the match in hand.

It is precisely on the terrain of the electoral law that Renzi tries to relaunch by controversially asking those who elected Torrisi as head of the Constitutional Affairs Commission of Palazzo Madama to make a proposal. In truth, there are too many electoral reform proposals in Parliament but the problem is finding a majority that approves one in line with the indications of the Constitutional Court which has partially rejected the Italicum and the road is anything but easy .

It cannot be ruled out that the fire will continue to smolder, but for now the Gentiloni government is safe even if, with the problems Italy is experiencing in an international situation full of tensions, it will not be able to content itself with just getting by.
