Renzi government, totoministri: out of Barca, Bernabè advances but the crux is the Economy

Lucrezia Reichlin, Guido Tabellini and Carlo Padoan are still in the running for the Treasury, after the self-exclusion of Barca, burnt by a phone prank, but a politician is thought of - For economic development, the derby between Bernabè and Moretti - Renzi, however, will have to also find a compromise with Alfano's New centre-right but he says: "I have clear ideas about the ministers".

Renzi government, totoministri: out of Barca, Bernabè advances but the crux is the Economy

The Government team will be ready within this week, but today and tomorrow will be primarily dedicated to consultations and programmes. This is the roadmap that leaks from the staff of the Pd secretary Matteo Renzi, commissioned yesterday by the Head of State to form the new Executive. First the programs, therefore, but on the ministers the prime minister assures: "I have clear ideas".

On the totoministri chessboard, the most complicated square to assign is that of the Treasury. It is not yet clear whether the objective is to continue along the path of the technicians or rather to steer towards a high-profile political figure, as the Quirinale discreetly suggests.

For now, the only certainty is that Fabrizio Barca will not be in the game. Yesterday the former Minister of Territorial Cohesion under the Monti government fell victim to a prank concocted by the Radio 24 program "La Zanzara". On the phone with an imitator of Nichi Vendola, Barca spoke confidentially with what he believed to be the leader of SEL: “Through a journalist – he said -, I receive constant pressure from Carlo De Benedetti for the Ministry of Economy. But I don't really think about it." These claims were later denied by the editor of La Repubblica and Barca expressed regret.

Among the other names in circulation on Via XX Settembre, the most accredited seem to be those of Lucrezia Reichlin, Guido Tabellini and Carlo Padoan (recently appointed to the presidency of Istat). However, Lorenzo Bini Smaghi, a former member of the ECB board, also remains in the running. Meanwhile, however, the political hypothesis is gaining ground.

As for the Ministry of Economic Development, after the predictable refusal of Andrea Guerra, CEO of Luxottica, the candidacy of Franco Bernabè, former number one of Telecom Italia and Eni (who is, however, also accredited for the Economy) advances. Mauro Moretti is also in the running, despite being freshly renewed as CEO of the Fs.

Furthermore, along the road that will lead to the new government, Renzi will have to find a compromise with the New Center-Right, which wants to keep three important seats in the new Executive. Angelino Alfano could remain at the Viminale (but he also asks for the delegation to Reforms), while his party colleagues Maurizio Lupi and Beatrice Lorenzin should continue to preside over Infrastructure and Health respectively. The confirmation of Emma Bonino at Foreign Affairs is also awaited.

Tito Boeri, Guglielmo Epifani and Pietro Ichino are competing for the Ministry of Welfare, while Gaetano Quagliariello should be replaced by Maria Elena Boschi at the Reforms and Livia Pomodoro could take Anna Maria Cancellieri's place at Justice.

The situation is still more fluid than ever and the consultations of these days will probably be decisive for the final choices. Today, starting at 10, Renzi meets the representatives of the minor parties in Montecitorio. From 16.15 it will be the turn of Civic choice, followed at 18 by Sel and at 19 by Ncd. Tomorrow morning, again from 10, the Prime Minister in charge will first receive the Forza Italia delegation, led by Silvio Berlusconi, then that of the Democratic Party. The 5 Star Movement has not yet decided whether or not to take part in the consultations.
