Government: Pd and M5S today at Fico, but the Nos are growing

Today President Fico meets again the delegations of Pd and Cinque Stelle, but the No to a government agreement are growing

Government: Pd and M5S today at Fico, but the Nos are growing

New round of consultations this morning by the President of the Chamber, Roberto Fico, commissioned by the Head of State, Sergio Mattarella, to explore the possibility of creating an axis-based parliamentary majority Five Stars-Pd.

It will be the delegations of the Pd before and of Five stars later to meet Fico for the second time after he had seemed to open up during the first meeting some glimmer of understanding following the closure of the Lega oven by the leader of the Five Stars, Luigi Di Maio, and the possible response of the regent secretary of the Democratic Party, Maurizio Martina.

But as the hours go by the possibilities of a government agreement between the Five Stars and the Democratic Party are receding. Emblematic were the questions asked yesterday morning in the center of Florence by former prime minister Matteo Renzi, who asked citizens and militants if, in their opinion, an agreement between the Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement was possible, gathering a chorus of Nos.

Also critical voices at the top of the Democratic Party, especially of the Renzians but not only (as in the case of minister Carlo Calenda, who announced that he would leave the Democratic Party if the wedding with the Five Stars were to take place), are growing and the meeting of the direction to be held early next week promises to be a showdown.

However, Martina also said yesterday that she wanted to try all the way to check whether an agreement with the Five Stars on programmatic bases indicated by the Pd it's just impossible. But in this case timing is fundamental and the Renzians accuse Martina of having been too hasty and of having given the impression of surrendering to the grillini.

Ma even the grillina base is in ferment and he doesn't like a government agreement with the Democratic Party after an electoral campaign and an entire legislature characterized by a furious confrontation.

No less agitated are the waters in the centre-right where Silvio Berlusconi he compared the Five Stars to the Nazis again infuriating the leader of the League, Matteo Salvini ("Berlusconi would do better to keep quiet").

Faced with such a tense political framework, it is not excluded that the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, before launching other government solutions, prefers to agree a few more days to the Fico consultations.
