Government, Orlando and Alfano open to magistrates and police

Government, Orlando and Alfano open to magistrates and police

The Government has eased the tensions that have arisen in recent days regarding some points of the program by opening up on two issues: holidays for magistrates and salaries for the forces of order.

“I gave a willingness to recognize a specificity that concerns the judiciary and from this comparison something could come out that can also be translated into an amendment", said the Minister of Justice, Andrea Orlando, on the sidelines of a debate at the Festa dell'Unità in Florence, to journalists who asked him if he confirmed the line of the Undersecretary of Justice, Cosimo Maria Ferri, on the amendment dedicated to magistrates' holidays in the justice decree law. "I told the ANM that we are asking the magistrates to make an effort to understand the need for everyone to make a sacrifice at this moment," concluded Orlando.

The controversy arose after the National Association of Magistrates had bluntly rejected the justice reform project drawn up by the government and presented last August 29 at Palazzo Chigi by Matteo Renzi and the Minister of Justice. The package of rules includes, among other things, the halving of the summer break for the courts, with the aim of reaching the "halving of the backlog of civil justice".

As for the salaries of police, the Minister of the Interior, Angelino Alfano, he assured that “the decision is made: the unlocking problem will be solved. Now we need to locate the technical tool and the fastest law enforcement vehicle to fix it. I hope the unions don't make any missteps because the problem has been solved. We are on the side of those women and men in uniform who defend our country and our communities every day. Even if they went overboard with the tone, they can't be sacrificed any further."

The unions are satisfied: "We await a summons from the Government as soon as possible, as assured by the president, Renzi for a comparison that sanctions the fastest and most suitable legislative instrument", - reads a note sent by the Coisp.
