Ecological Transition and Digital Transition Departments Created, Culture and Tourism Departments Separated – Here's who is Borrelli's successor

Government: ok to reorganize ministries. Curcio to the Civil Protection

On Friday the Draghi government passed the decree which rearrange ministries. He has also been nominated the new head of the Civil Protection: It is Fabrizio Curcio, who will replace Angelo Borrelli, whose mandate was in any case expiring in March.

On the first front, the main novelties are the creation of the Ministry of Ecological Transition (which absorbs the delegation to Energy from the Mise) and that of Digital transition. The competences on were also divided into two different ministries Culture e Tourism.

“Ecological transition does not only mean environment and green – Luigi Di Maio wrote on Facebook – but we will go to totally overhaul the concept of work, of businesses and we will open an innovative and modern road that will lead us to be much more competitive. And there will be new, lasting jobs.”

The reorganization launched by the government also divides the competences on telecommunications. The new Ministry of Technological Innovation and Digital Transition will coordinate the activities related to the digitization of the PA and businesses, while the projects related to 5G and the Internet remain the responsibility of the Mise.

Finally, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport changes its name, becoming the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructures and Mobility.

For Curtius – a 55-year-old engineer – he was already head of the Protection Department from 2015 to 2017, under the Gentiloni government, but was then forced to leave for health reasons. Official of the fire brigade, in 1997 he intervened on the earthquake of Umbria and Marche. He entered the Civil Protection in 2007, called by Guido Bertolaso.
