Government, now off to privatizations: starting with Poste and Enav

The Council of Ministers which will meet today at 12 will examine two decrees of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers with the "criteria for privatization and methods for alienating the shareholding" held by the Ministry of Economy in the capital of Poste Italiane and Enav. Palazzo Chigi made it known in a note.

Last month, after the presentation of the Def, Minister Padoan had assured that the privatization of Poste and Enav was "in an advanced stage" and that the Government would undertake to continue "on this path", which he estimates could be worth 12 billion just for this year: “The privatizations will continue – said Padoan -. The decline in the debt-to-GDP ratio will start to show soon and will accelerate as growth gains momentum. Supporting growth is the best way to reduce debt”.

According to what emerges from the draft of the National Reform Plan, attached to the Def, the proceeds deriving from privatizations will amount to around 12 billion in 2014. The proceeds, we read, will be used to reduce the public debt. And also in 2015, 2016 and 2017 revenues will be around 10-12 billion per year, equal to around 0,7% of GDP.

The government should put on the market 40% of Poste Italiane (estimated in recent months at between 4 and 5 billion) and 49% of Enav, the company to which the State has entrusted the management and control of civil air traffic in Italy, an operation that could be worth another billion euros.
