Government, Napolitano: we need continuity, in Italy we have the record of political fibrillation

The day after the conviction of Silvio Berlusconi and the resignation of Josefa Idem, the Head of State Giorgio Napolitano spoke about the conditions of Italian politics. "In Italy we have the record of political fibrillation: not two months pass from the formation of a government that the topic of discussions becomes the next, looming, imminent or fatal government crisis" he said, during a speech at the Cnr on the occasion of the Prize for innovation.

"I wish there was a little more continuity in the government institution – he continued – The continuity of the institutions, through self-corrections, is an essential element and does not mean conservatism and immobilism. Respect and care for institutions are one of the cornerstones of the democratic state and of civil society worthy of the name".
