Meloni government: the Ministry of Energy appears. It could be led by Paolo Scaroni, former CEO of Eni

Contrasts and tensions on the choice of names for the new Meloni-led government: summit in sight. For energy, the name of Paolo Scaroni appears

Meloni government: the Ministry of Energy appears. It could be led by Paolo Scaroni, former CEO of Eni

The negotiations for the new Meloni government, the first of the Right and led by a woman, continue at a rapid pace. An FdI summit with Lega and FI should take place in the next few hours to overcome the still very heated disagreements on the names of ministers and on key seats (first of all: the Treasury) and the presidents of the Chambers. And the hypothesis of a Ministry of Energy appears: it could be led by the former CEO of Eni Paolo Scaroni.

Meloni government: majority summit on names, tight deadlines

Giorgia Meloni continues to say that she wants a government with quality ministers, unassailable names capable of convincing Europe and the international community that Italy led by the Right is reliable. However, the conflicts between the partners are still heated. And time is running out: the parliamentary vote on the presidents of the Chamber and Senate is expected on Thursday 13 October, the premise for allowing President Sergio Mattarella to start the consultations. The forecasts, at the moment, are that the new executive can see the light no earlier than 21 October when Mario Draghi will return from the EU Council, the last one in which he will participate as Prime Minister. Afterwards, there will be the bell ceremony and the changing of the guard at Palazzo Chigi.

In total ministers Paolo Scaroni appears for the Ministry of Energy

In the crucial chapter of the economic ministries, Giorgia Meloni seems intent on changing ministries and delegations as little as possible in order to simplify and shorten the time for the establishment of the new government. However, you see something new that is currently being evaluated: that of setting up a Ministry of Energy. Today the delicate and complex matter of energy is delegated to the Ministry of Transition Ecology, before the Draghi government it was the Ministry of Development that governed the matter. Meloni would like an ad hoc ministry, to underline how crucial the sector is. Who could drive it? The name is mentioned of Paolo Scaroni, former CEO of Enel first and then of Eni, current president of Milan. It will be seen shortly whether it is a concrete option or a rapidly vanishing hypothesis.

In recent interviews (the most cited, in La Stampa in August) the manager expressed his perplexities on the gas price ceiling and said he was confident that Vladimir Putin would not turn off the gas taps but only possibly reduce supplies.

"Italy must worry more about the increase in costs than with supplies. The energy transition is right, but it will take a very long time to replace hydrocarbons," Scaroni said in an interview with La Stampa. “The ceiling on the price of gas is unattainable, because the countries of the North do not want it nor the market, which in the end rules.
Europe should above all think about an energy policy for the future, to avoid having the highest prices of all even when the crisis is over”. "But I don't think there will be a shortage of methane", was his conclusion.
