M5S-Lega government: yet another meeting, premier wanted

No intention of forcing Brussels' hand on the deficit and a "very strong" convergence on the flat tax. These are the two most important news that emerged from this morning's meeting between the leader of the League, Matteo Salvini, and the number one of the 5 Star Movement, Luigi di Maio, engaged in a complicated negotiation for the formation of the new government, with the goal of reaching the oath by the end of next week.

“Another meeting will be needed for the program,” Salvini said. “We are making great strides forward”, Di Maio certifies. On Saturday, the two leaders will meet again in Milan, at the Pirellone, headquarters of the Lombardy Region.

On the deficit front, Grillo sources explain to Ansa that

the initial objective is to respect the targets and not exceed 1,5%. If there is a need to overrun, it will be discussed with the EU because there is no will to force against the European partners. The idea is to "proceed gracefully" by a government that will be "rational and reasonable".

As for the flat tax, according to the same sources there is a "very strong convergence between M5S and Lega on the flat tax, which has enormous benefits for the middle class". Opening also confirmed by Di Maio himself, who speaks of a possible agreement also on the conflict of interest.

In the meantime, however, everything is being discussed: from the list of ministers to the name of the next prime minister. It is now obvious that it will be a "third figure": not Di Maio nor Salvini, therefore, who will probably enter the executive as ministers.

In the morning, the name of Giampiero Massolo, president of Fincantieri and former head of the secret services, circulated around Palazzo Chigi, about which, however, as the hours went by, skepticism emerged from both the League and the pentastellati.

Not only. If and when the negotiations are concluded – announced Davide Casaleggio – any government contract will be submitted to a vote on the Rousseau platform.
