Government: new consultations at the Quirinale on Monday

A last call that sounds like a "pull on the ear" - The Quirinale: "" After two months the starting positions of the parties have remained unchanged" - Truce between the currents at the PD leadership - Renzi: "No to Salvini and No to Di Maio”.

Government: new consultations at the Quirinale on Monday

Sergio Mattarella tries again. The President of the Republic has called a new round of consultations in order to try to overcome the political stalemate on the formation of the new government. All in one day, twenty minutes per delegation.

The Head of State will therefore leave the main parties another three days to clarify their ideas, but the considerations accompanying the announcement of the new meetings still seem very clear: "After two months, the starting positions of the parties have remained unchanged . No prospect of a government majority has emerged. The new consultations on Monday will serve "to verify whether the parties have other prospects for a government majority".

Il Colle further explains that: “In recent days, the possibility of an agreement between the M5s and the Democratic Party has also waned. President Mattarella will hold new consultations, in a single day, that of Monday, to verify if the parties propose other prospects for a government majority". In short, the President of the Republic tries the consultation card for the last time, having acknowledged the failure of the hypothesis of an agreement between the Grillini and the Democrats, to understand if there are other possible agreements to arrive at the formation of the executive.

A last call that sounds like a "pull on the ears". Two months after the March 4 elections, there has been no step forward and no commitment on the part of the political forces to overcome the stalemate.

It should be emphasized that the announcement comes a few hours from the Pd leadership which, however, by now seems to be concentrated only on confrontation within the party, leaving thein the background the possible hypothesis with the 5 Star Movement.

“We will ask for a vote on a document stating No to Salvini and No to Di Maio. We will certainly all vote for trust in Maurizio Martina right up to the assembly” which will have to be convened to decide whether to elect a secretary or call the congress. This is the line with which the Renzians will present themselves at the long-awaited appointment. On the other hand, the former Democratic secretary was clear: "The Democratic Party cannot be the sixth star of the Movement".

At the center of attention within the party is the possible vote of confidence in the regent Maurizio Martina: in fact, the minority would like a document confirming their trust in the regent until the congress, a hypothesis which, however, does not please the Renzians who aim instead for the election of a new secretary at the meeting.

“With the M5S the chapter is closed – Maurizio Martina then confirmed in his speech -. We talked a lot about them but the real theme was us, our role and our function even when we are a minority. For me it was not condemning ourselves to irrelevance and accepting a challenge. It was a riskier hypothesis but I imagined it as best I could up to here with this ambition. For us, the theme has never been to vote for Salvini or Di Maio as Premier. But for us the theme can never even be supporting any path with Salvini, Berlusconi and Meloni as reference partners. Clearly all the more impossible for us to have a Northern League government. Now the fact is the risk of an early vote”. In the end, everyone agrees: a truce between the currents and unanimous approval of the Martina report, which espouses the line expressed on TV by the former secretary Matteo Renzi last Sunday.
