Government, Renzi's first time after the trust

After the trust, Matteo Renzi's life as prime minister begins. At the end of a very long parliamentary day, yesterday the new government collected the green light from the Chamber with 378 votes in favour, 220 against and one abstention. The OK from the Senate had already arrived on Monday.

This morning, on his first trip as Prime Minister, the secretary of the Democratic Party went to Treviso. First a visit to the "Luigi Coletti" middle school in Santa Bona, then a meeting with Luca Zaia, president of the Veneto Region, and a series of local administrators, entrepreneurs and trade unions. He was also present with a delegation of Electrolux workers. Renzi will then leave for Rome, where a CDM for the appointment of deputy ministers and undersecretaries.

“In the government we have to look at the spread and the markets – the Premier said this morning – but then the countries are saved only if the schools work. Italy becomes great and important only if it manages to invest in school, so we decided to start from here. In recent years, teachers have been considered a little less”.

But where to find the resources to carry out all the reforms promised by the Government? The answer comes from Graziano Delrio, undersecretary to the Prime Minister, who in an interview with Il Sole 24 Ore clarified the intervention strategy of the Executive: “No longer a hundred priorities, interventions in spades, all financed but financed little. Enough with the logic of maxi-decrees where everything is put in but then nothing reaches citizens and businesses. We want to concentrate resources and administrative efforts on a few priorities, a few interventions. But those interventions will have to be very visible. We won't do everything, we will do a few things but with a big impact".

Delrio then indicated the two most urgent interventions on the fiscal side: the wedge cut and the tax credit for research and innovation, thanks to which the Government expects "thousands of researchers to be hired by companies". As for financial coverage, Delrio announced three billion more for 2014 from the spending review: “It's an excellent job, we plan to make it our own. Over the three-year period, Cottarelli's goal is 32 billion” and for 2014 “it is possible to raise 3 billion more”.

Finally, Delrio reiterated that he never said the government will tax i Boots: “The intervention will concern only big savers. She is not the old ladies with a few Bots ”.
