After the trust received by the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday, the new Gentiloni government also passes the test of Palazzo Madama and receives the trust of the senators: in fact, in the Senate there were 169 yeses (the expected range was between 166 and 173). Last night Montecitorio had voted confidence in the government Gentiloni with 368 deputies in favor and 105 against. “I ask you to trust me and I trust the Senate,” the new prime minister said this morning in his keynote speech before the vote.

“The main task will be to complete the reforms started – added Gentiloni -. It is not a government at the start of a term but first of all it must complete the exceptional work of reform, innovation and modernization of recent years. I think there is no doubt about the fact that there is a lot of innovation being carried out: we are recognized by Italian citizens and internationally. It would be absurd for a government that many critics accuse of excessive continuity, to imagine that completing the reforms it has begun is not its main task".

In the conclusion of his speech quoting Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, Gentiloni reiterated his intention "for how long this delicate transition will last, to serve the country with humility". Meanwhile, the new government has already officially taken office with the passage of the bell between Renzi and the new premier Paolo Gentiloni, who presided over the first council of ministers after being sworn in at the Quirinale. Eighteen ministers, of which 12 from the past executive confirmed.
