Government, trust in the House. Salvini: "The rich pay less taxes"

After Tuesday's fiery session in the Senate, during which Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte presented with a long intervention the program of the new government and gained the trust of Palazzo Madama, amidst numerous applause from the benches of the majority, the no of Forza Italia and the intervention of the former premier Matteo Renzi, today the debate moved to the Chamber. Confidence, also in this case, was obvious and the Government collected 350 (4 votes more than expected), 236 no and 35 abstentions.

COUNT'S REPLY TO THE ROOM

In his speech before the deputies of Montecitorio, the Premier replied to the criticisms received, explaining the position of the Lega-M5s government on various topics. From environmental issues, on which "there will be a lot of attention from this executive" to CBI which, Conte pointed out: “will not be conceived as a merely welfare measure. We conceived it as a tool for reintegration into work. We will try to plan this measure in a very careful way, in a very articulated way”.

Criticize the opinion on'Anac led by Raffaele Cantone: “I launched the idea of properly evaluating the role of the Anac which should not be weakened. At the moment, however, we don't have the results we expected and perhaps we had invested too much. We can also enhance Anac in terms of prevention and strengthen the prevention phase, in order to have a sort of advance certification of public administrators in order to be able to proceed with tenders more quickly"

Chapter South: “We will not shirk investments in infrastructure: they are a fundamental part of our programme”, said the premier who reiterated on the South: “Having a minister for the South was a gesture of great attention. Bear in mind that even today we are unable to fully use the funds destined for the South. The rationalization of these funds would be a first step forward”.

A quick but important announcement has arrived on the banks. In fact, the intentions of the new executive include a “review of the recent provisions on popular banks and cooperative credit”. "Someone says that we are not interested in the banking problem - added Conte - Apart from the fact that I have met with saver associations, but we are more interested in the system problem, we are evaluating whether it is appropriate to distinguish between credit banks and investment banks, which are more closely linked to speculation".

Su Europe and debt “We are in favor of negotiating on this front”, that of the “progressive descent of the debt”, says Conte. We will have to see how to get there" by negotiating "also at a European level and we will go to those tables also wanting to express a political direction, we hope with the firmness and determination necessary to be heard by our partners".

Tussle in the classroom after the words of the head of government on conflict of interest: “vexata quaestio in this Parliament: we will try to take this issue back in hand, we will do it as soon as possible. And your interventions aimed at interrupting me show that everyone has their own conflict or thinks they have their own conflict…”. Conte said that to the protests of parliamentarians, in particular from the left, he explains: "I have been misunderstood, I am not accusing anyone but I say that it is in the interstices of society at any level".

International politics still finds space in the Prime Minister's reply. Conte specified that “Nella NATO we want to stay there, as the poet said, "optime" (the reference is to a phrase by Tito Livio "Hic manebimus optime", i.e. "here we will be very comfortable")

On the justice, the Premier dwells on inequalities: “Today, those who can afford complex defenses are able to defend their reasons. Just consider the statistics. There are margins of intervention that also concern prisoners who must not live below dignity ”, he explained. “All citizens must be treated equally. The system must be reliable and we must attract foreign investors”.

Talking about the flat tax, according to Conte “the tax system needs to be reformed. We have envisaged a system of rates, we have envisaged recovering the progressive criteria as established by the Constitution and a no-tax area. We count on carrying forward a reform project on these bases”.

THE VOTE OF CONFIDENCE

Returning to trust, there were no problems with the numbers: with the yes of M5S and Lega, with the abstention of the Brothers of Italy and the no of Forza Italia and the Democratic Party. But the majority of the Legastellato package is even more solid in Montecitorio than in the Senate. “That of this government is not a project for the future of the country – he said in the Chamber the regent of the Pd Maurizio Martina -: it only serves you to be together. There is nothing useful in the contract to build a future trajectory for the country. Your contract is unfair for the choices it offers. If you decide to present a disguised amnesty, we will fight you. If you decide to discriminate against children in kindergartens by birth, we will fight you. If you decide to make one tax counter-reform where those who have more pay lesswe will battle you. We – she admonishes – will be the alternative, the popular alternative, the social alternative ”. But the group leader of the Pd deputies, Graziano Del Rio, was much tougher when he rebuked the Premier inviting him not to talk about the Constitution as if it were a kind connection but who, precisely by virtue of respecting the Constitution, should rewrite the program and redo the list of ministers, choosing them himself: "Don't play the puppet of the parties".

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior spoke on Radio Anch'io on the flat tax Matteo Salvini: “Everyone wins with the flat tax. If one invoices more and pays more, it is clear that one saves more, reinvest more, hire one more worker, buy one more car, and create more jobs. We are unable to multiply the loaves and fishes. Our goal is for everyone to be able to have a few more lira in their pockets to spend,” said the leader of the League. In essence, argued Salvini "it is right that those who earn more pay less taxes".

"We aim to make a few laws and done well, we must not rush to approve laws and I think the Italians will understand if we take a few more months", said the Minister for Relations with Parliament instead, the pentastellato Riccardo Fraccaro. And the minister, on the opposition front, underlines: "We hope to work constructively, we try to get Parliament to work collaboratively, this was not possible in the last legislature".

“There is a huge budget there are so many possibilities. We will also be able to do things that have a much greater social impact than the economic one,” he said Minister Danilo Toninelli answering a question about the resources needed for the infrastructure to be built. “We have to study, I'm forming my team. This step is essential. Better resources for the country are excellent results for all citizens. The goal is to do well for everyone, not for a few categories,” she added.
