Government, Fico tests the Five Star-Pd axis

The Quirinale has summoned the Speaker of the Chamber, Roberto Fico, for 17pm today, but after the Molise elections the center-right claims Palazzo Chigi – If this attempt also fails, Mattarella will move towards assigning the position to a figure Super partes

Government, Fico tests the Five Star-Pd axis

The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, is preparing to entrust, an exploratory assignment for the formation of the new government to the President of the Chamber, the pentastellato Roberto Fico who has been summoned to the Quirinale for 17.00 today.

The rules of engagement will be symmetrical and opposite to those previously established for the president of the Senate, Elisabetta Casellati, which unsuccessfully probed the possibilities of a government agreement between all of the center-right and the Five Stars even if the result of the Molise elections it may have given the turning point that was needed to accelerate towards the formation of a government.

On the contrary and barring sudden reversals in the face, Fico will be in charge of verifying whether or not the political conditions exist for a government agreement, otherwise declined, between the Five Stars and the Pd. A road that remains very uphill, both due to the political and programmatic differences between the two alignments which in the last legislature and also during the electoral campaign clashed hard both due to the puzzle of the Presidency of the Council, as the Democratic Party has already made it clear that it would not accept a Di Maio premiership and the latter would not be inclined to give the green light to his great internal rival, namely Fico.

In case the exploration of the President of the Chamber should not be successful, the Head of State would find himself having his hands free and, not wanting to dissolve the Chambers again after only a few months, he would probably entrust the new mandate to attempt the formation of the government to a super partes figure (the name of the jurist Sabino Cassese is the one that circulates the most) for a government of truce, either institutional or of the president looking for votes in Parliament.

But at this point the next pages of the political crisis remain to be written and uncertainty is very high under the sky of politics.
