Government and quota 100: Elsa Fornero in the Palazzo Chigi team

Experts, technicians and professors return to Palazzo Chigi thanks to the newborn Steering Committee for economic policy set up by the Undersecretary of the Presidency, Bruno Tabacci. There is among them Elsa Fornero, former Minister of Labor of the Monti government which promoted and launched the now famous pension reform currently in force. The objective of the Council will be to "guide, strengthen and make efficient the programmatic activity in the field of economic policy coordination".

According to the Evening Courier “it is to be believed that the role that Fornero will have from advisor to the Draghi government it will once again be that of a sort of 'Jiminy Cricket'. Which is, on the other hand, the task that the professor assigns to experts like her”. It is unlikely that he will go back to dealing directly with pensions, but in view of the expiry of Quota 100, the "selective interventions" necessary to avoid the big staircase will find space on the table of the Steering Committee.

Together with Fornero, the Italian elite of the economy, law and work will arrive, a sort of "committee of wise men", as Repubblica defines it, which will have the task of suggesting to the Executive the best recipes to promote the restart and boost growth. A few names? Other members include the former president of the Cariplo Foundation, Giuseppe Guzzetti, the former director of Bankitalia, Anna Maria Tarantola, the economist Alessandra Lanza (ex IMF, Sace and Intesa Sanpaolo), the vice president of Assolombarda, Antonio Calabrò, the former Dean of Sociology at the Catholic University of Milan, Mauro Magatti. And again: Patrizia De Luise, Giuseppe De Rita, Alessandro Palanza, Alessandro Pajno, Monica Parrella, Paola Profeta, Silvia Scozzese, Alessandra Servidori, Mauro Zampini. Undersecretary Tabacci himself will preside over the institution.

The Steering Committee will work at the Dipe, the department for the planning and coordination of economic policy directed by Marco Leonardi.
