May 25 will be an election day. The Council of Ministers decided today that on that date the European and local elections will be held at the same time for the renewal of mayors and the related municipal councils in the regions with ordinary statute. The eventual run-off round is scheduled for the following Sunday 8 June.
The CDM has taken note of the communication from the Minister of the Interior, Angelino Alfano, in which it declares that it has identified, pursuant to art. 3 of law 182/1991, on Sunday 25 May 2014 the date of the municipal meetings.
"Minister Alfano's decree setting the date - reads the note issued at the end of the Council meeting - takes into account the principles of reducing public spending by carrying out, on the same date as the European elections, the other electoral consultations envisaged during the year".
