Government 4 times ko in Parliament, Draghi is furious and curries the parties: "We can't go on like this"

Thursday the government was disavowed by Parliament on four amendments to the Milleproroghe decree. The topics were various (Ilva, cash, animal experiments and school rankings), so the incident - which took place in the joint Constitutional Affairs and Budget committees of the Chamber, where the decree is under discussion - does not concern a particular issue, but it is connoted as a political signal of rupture.

Draghi's rage

Enough to make the Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, nervous, who first goes up to the Quirinale for an interview with the Head of State, then asks for explanations in the control room from the parties. And he scolds them, explaining that “votes in Parliament must be guaranteed, or else it will not go ahead: let's change the method, this government was wanted by Mattarella to get things done ".

The amendments on which the Government went under

The ceiling on cash: center-right united against the government

The most sensational incident concerns the approval of the amendment by the Brothers of Italy (39 votes in favor against 38 against) which maintains the cash cap to 2 thousand euros, instead of dropping it to a thousand until January 5 next year, as the government would have wanted. Together with Fdi, Lega and Forza Italia also vote: "It is the victory of the united center-right", comments the secretary of the Carroccio, Matteo Salvini. "You are champions of legality every other day - replies Giuseppe Conte, leader of the MXNUMXS - This is how the underground economy is favored".

The former Ilva of Taranto

As for the amendment on the former Ilva, all the majority parties - except the League - voted to repeal the Milleproroghe article which moved 575 million of the billion seized from the Rivas (the former owners of the Taranto steelworks) to decarbonisation of the current management instead of cleanup of the areas outside the factory. In this regard, Conte posted a tweet that seems to have infuriated Draghi:

Animal experimentation

The third amendment on which the government went ko concerned the extension until July 2025, 5, instead of just six months as the executive wanted, of animal experimentation in studies on organ xenotransplantation and drugs of abuse. The proposed change had been put forward by the Democratic Party, but the MXNUMXS and Leu blocked his way.

The rankings for substitutes

Finally, the update of the rankings for substitutes - requested by Forza Italia and supported by the government - was rejected by everyone except the Lega.

In short, chaos: the one that took place on Thursday was an all against all that raises a series of doubts about the prospects of the majority.
