Google, incoming EU fine of 1 billion

Google risks a one-billion-euro fine from the European Commission's Antitrust Authority. The Financial Times writes it explaining that EU officials are expected to announce the fine in the coming weeks after cases of market dominance abuse linked to the Google Shopping service.

"As usual, we do not comment on ongoing investigations, nor provide information on timing." So a spokesman for the EU Commission on the rumors of the 'Financial Times' of a 1 billion euro fine coming to Google in the coming weeks for abuse of dominant position on Shopping services. This is one of the three cases opened by the EU Antitrust against the giant Mountain View, in addition to the one on Android and AdSense.

The three investigations remain separate from each other, and therefore also their closure is independent and does not affect the outcome of the others. However, it is not common practice for the EU Antitrust to apply the maximum limits set for fines, equal to 10% of the offending company's annual turnover for the previous year.
