Google entrusts Glass to Mr. iPod

The Mountain View giant suspends the production of smart glasses, which will be entrusted to an independent division under the leadership of Tony Fadell, one of the fathers of the iPod.

Google entrusts Glass to Mr. iPod

The Google Glass stops. This was announced by the official blog of the Mountain View giant: the production of Big G branded smart glasses was blocked by the parent company with a surprise decision that gave rise to an incessant tam tam on the net, made up of surprise and disappointment for a a project which, launched amid trumpet blasts a couple of years ago, has never taken off.

The project, mind you, has not been abandoned, but only suspended, pending a relaunch which, however, will obviously lengthen the time for the release of Google's smart glasses, currently wrapped in a cloud of uncertainty. What is certain, as of today, is that the project will no longer be part of the Google X section, but will be managed, from now on, as an independent division.

Ivy Ross will be the head of the Google Glass division, but the point of reference for the new organization will be Tony Fadell, who has left Apple and is considered one of the most influential parents of the iPod. Fadell, to date, is the president and founder of Nest Labs, a company acquired by the Mountain View giant in early 2014 and made known by the invention of an intelligent thermostat, which can be controlled via smartphone or tablet.

Google therefore intends to continue the development of glasses which, thanks to the connection to smartphones, can receive notifications, applications and geographical indications, but certainly their sale, initially scheduled for mid-2015, will inevitably be destined to slip.

Meanwhile lhe sales and production of the first versions of Google Glass, those, to be clear, still within the Explorer program, will be closed on January 19th.
