Golf, Us Open: challenge at Pebble Beach with Tiger and Molinari

The most spectacular golf takes place from today to Sunday with the Us Open, the third major of the year which, for the third time in history, is played near San Francisco on the Pebble Beach Links, an iconic track that runs along the Pacific Ocean. The scenarios and winds are dream or nightmarish for the players, but definitely worth the ticket for any spectator or TV viewer. Among the expected protagonists of this edition there is Francesco Molinari, number 6 in the world, who will play the first two rounds with the reigning champion and number one in the world ranking Brooks Koepka, already scored in the 2019 PGA Championship.

The American has an edge when it comes to majors and could prove it again, making a legend out of himself. However, Laser Frankie can give a hard time to very powerful players like Koepka or Dustin Johnson, thanks to its millimeter precision and its solid putter, useful qualities on a not too long course (6300 metres) and with small greens. Italy also boasts another young talent in this sport, in his first test in a major, it is about Renato Paratore who gained access to the Sectional Qualifer race held in Surrey, England.

In total there are 156 participants, including 14 amateurs. But the public's attention will be catalysed as usual by Tiger Woods, the world number five, who is chasing his second grand slam title of the season and his 82nd victory on the PGA Tour, a feat that would allow him to equal Sam Snead's record. Tiger has already won the US Open on this court, but it's been almost 20 years, because it was 2000 and finding the same feeling won't be easy. If it happened, he would take home his fourth US Open.

Among the favorites it is a must to include Rory McIlroy, victorious last Sunday at the Canadian Open and therefore in good shape, after the recent disappointments. He will try again for the umpteenth time too Phil Mickelson who, with the Us Open, could finally complete his career grand slam. The place suits him, because here he won the AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am 5 times. Also keep an eye on samples of the caliber of Justin Thomas, Bryson DeChambeau, Xander Schauffele and Rickie Fowler. It's the 106th edition of this race, on a course that is turning a century old. The prize pool is $12,5 million, $2,250 million of which will go to first place.

The tournament is broadcast live and exclusively on Sky Sports Us Open starting tonight at 21.
