Golf: Tiger Woods and Molinari, new challenge to the Pga Championship

The chills of spring this week are not of cold, but of pleasure for golf enthusiasts. In fact, the duelists Tiger Woods and Francesco Molinari return to the field, who

The trio of the first 36 holes will be completed by reigning champion Brooks Koepka. In essence, these are the three winners of the last three majors: Molinari, who defeated the competition in the 2018 Open Championship; Koepka, who won this race last year; Tiger, who was the unrivaled winner of the 2019 Masters. The three champions are now in contention in almost every race that matters. In this round, the PGA site does not put the blue among the favourites, but this does not mean that the Turinese lacks the right talent to win.

Francesco, who is making his eleventh consecutive appearance in this race, has been among the protagonists of the last two editions with a second and a sixth place. In Augusta he suffered a psychological setback, with two balls in the water in the last nine holes, when he was in the lead and playing right with Tiger, but a champion of his caliber must put the bad memories behind him and immediately aim for another trophy. This is also an excellent opportunity for revenge against Tiger, who in turn had to swallow many bitter pills precisely because of Francesco, both at the British Open and at the Ryder Cup in Paris.

Woods has already won the PGA Championship in 1999, 2000, 2006, 2007. If he were to lift the Wanakaker Trophy to the sky for the fifth time, it would be his 82nd victory on the US circuit and his 16th success in a major.

Apart from this triad, which is certainly the most important, let's remember that there are 156 players on the field and everyone has some chance of winning. Naturally, it starts from world number one Dustin Johnson, continuing with Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy, who can aspire to world leadership in the event of victory, as well as Tiger Woods (but Johnson must be outside the top ten). One player looking for redemption is Jordan Spieth, who by winning the PGA could complete the grand slam in his career. Other notable appearances include Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed, Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia, Tommy Fleetwood and Paul Casey, Hideki Matsuyama Adam Scott and Jason Day.

The PGA Championship, now in its 101st edition, changes its date this year. It usually took place at the end of August and closed the major season, but from 2019 the month of August will be dedicated to the Playoffs of the Fedex Cup, to start again in September with a new competitive season.

The Longa Island course is a 70-metre par 6700, designed by AW Tillinghast in 1936. Top secret prize money, which will certainly be stellar. For the occasion, golf in Italy is back on Sky Sport Golf, tonight the live broadcast starts at 19pm and ends at XNUMXam. ffffff
