Golf, Tiger gives up the Ryder Cup

Tiger Woods withdraws from the Ryder Cup, the Europe-USA match which will be played at Gleneagles in Scotland from 23 to 28 September. The champion announced it on his website after, in recent days, captain Tom Watson had said: "It is Tiger who must evaluate how he is and if he is able to play well".

The American champion, this year, didn't accumulate the points to join the team by right and Watson should have used one of the wilde cards at his disposal for him. Tiger's season was sadly marred by a serious back problem and subsequent surgery. His appearances, after about four months off, have been very disappointing, especially his last one, at the PGA Championship where he didn't even make it past the cut. "The USA team and the Ryder Cup - says Tiger - mean too much to me, not to be able to give my best".

However, Tiger reassures the fans, stating that the last back problem was only muscular and it is precisely on the back muscles that he will work in the coming months, to return to the field from December 7st to XNUMXth, for the World Challenge in Isleworth, Orlando, Florida, on tournament sponsored by him and in support of his Foundation which helps needy children with their studies. "A tournament that I care a lot about - concludes Tiger - and where it will be exciting for me to play again".

In the meantime, this week the American tour is in North Carolina for the Wyndham Championship (from today to Thursday) in which Matteo Manassero is also participating. On this occasion Manny takes advantage of the possibility that the Pga Tour has offered him to close the season on American soil. It is a delicate and important moment in the professional life of the Italian athlete who, after having already won 4 tournaments on the European tour, is experiencing a moment of crisis.

The sudden change in his physique and the work he is doing on his swing have certainly created some adjustment problems for Manassero, but his talent is great and the twenty-one year old is trying seriously and with dedication to get out of the ford. After the disappointment of the PGA, where he did not pass the cut, he wants to make up some ground this week in order to subsequently be able to consider a definitive move to the US tour next season.

The European circuit instead is from today in Denmark where the number two of the Race to Dubai Thomas Bjorn does the honors. At Made in Denmark the Italian colors are represented by Matteo Crespi and Andrea Pavan.
