Golf, Spieth tries again at RBC Heritage

Jordan Spieth he does not intend to rest on his laurels or, better, on the rhododendrons of the Masters, because he is back on the field this week in South Carolina for the new appointment of the Pga Tour: RBC Heritage, in Hilton Head Island, on the very long par 71 course (6400 meters) Harbor Town Golf Links.

It is an excellent level competition, certainly not comparable to a major, but full of excellent players, among which the young Texan, who has just been crowned at the Augusta National, stands out. The dish is appetizing, 5,9 million dollars, over a million for the former and a field of 132 players including 13 of the top 30 in the FedexCup, from Matt Kuchar, to Patrick Reed, to Brandt Snedeker and 12 of the top 35 in the world ranking, such as Jim Furyk, Ian Poulter, Graeme McDowell. Worth mentioning champions such as Ernie Els and Davis Love III.

In the tee times of the first two days Spieth plays with the defending champion Kuchar and with his friend Patrick Reed. It will be interesting to see how the XNUMX-year-old is in form after last week's magnificent performance.

Many other protagonists of Augusta instead rest this weekend, from world number one Rory McIlory to Tiger Woods. The latter also seems to have a bone out of place in his wrist injured against a root of Georgia pines and it is not known when he will return to the scene. However, it is conceivable that we will see him again at work for The Players (May 7-10) or more probably for the second major of the year, the U.S. Open (June 18-21). By now Woods' calendar is a distillation of competitions that practically only includes grand slam tournaments. On the other hand, the only record he hasn't broken is the 18 majors won by Jack Nicklaus and that's perhaps the only reason he still plays.

Also on the European Tour this week there is a good race: lo Shenzhen International on the course of the Genzon Golf Club, in Shenzhen in China, which will be followed by the Volvo China Open (Shanghai, 23-26 April). Four Italians involved: Matteo Manassero, Edoardo Molinari, Marco Crespi and Renato Paratore. The top three will also stop for Shanghai, while Paratore is on the waiting list and looking for a good performance in Shenzen.

The rivals are of the caliber of Bubba Watson, number four in the world, two Masters in his palmares, but subdued in Augusta where he defended the title.
