Golf, Italian Open: dream start with Molinari fourth and 25 spectators

The Italian Open underway in Monza could not have started better than this: both for the audience and for the performance of Molinari, in the running for the title

Dream start for the Italian Open, underway in Monza: Francesco Molinari, after 36 holes, is once again in the running for the title, which this year will give the winner over 1,6 million dollars in prize money giant of 7 million dollars. Molinari closed the second round in fourth position, at -10, behind Marcus Fraser and Matt Wallace, both at -13. A single shot separates him instead from Kiradech Aphibarnrat (-11). In pole position the Spanish champion Sergio Garcia, -9, while the young Iberian phenomenon Jon Rahm is slightly further back, -7. Same result for Nino Bertasio (-7), Andrea Pavan is at -5.

The large group of Italian players who will play over the weekend is completed by Enrico Di Nitto and the amateurs Stefano Mazzoli and Lorenzo Scalise, all down by 3. The cut, set at -3, for the first 65 and tied, left out many excellent names, from Martin Kaymer to Matteo Manassero. Nonetheless, this 74th edition promises to be one of the most beautiful ever. The Golf Club of Milan also confirms itself as an excellent venue for international championships such as this one. The number of visitors was extraordinary, encouraged by the free ticket. Another record: ten thousand people watched the match on Thursday and 15 thousand yesterday, giving the event the importance it deserves in the world golf scene.
