Golf, all Rory McIlroy

He's the new king of golf, he's won everything possible and tomorrow he's back on the green fairways of Wentworth, near London, for the BMW Pga Championship. He will defend the title from fierce challengers such as Justin Rose, Lee Westwood and Victor Dubuisson. Even the Italians boast players of rank such as Matteo Manassero and Francesco Molinari

Golf, all Rory McIlroy

He is world number one, Race to Dubai number one, Fedex number three, winner of three tournaments this season, one on the European tour and two on the American tour, he is last week's winner and the defending champion of this week's tournament. It's Rory McIlroy, the new king of golf.

Tomorrow the Northern Irish star returns to the green fairways of Wentworth, an hour from London, from where, last year, he restarted his thirst for victories. A few hours after breaking his engagement with Caroline Wozniacki, in fact, the champion played the best golf of him and won the most important European tournament. In a few months Rory regained the top of the world ranking and added two majors to his palmares. He hasn't stopped since then.

In the United States in April he missed the Masters, the major he lacks to complete the grand slam, but he won two important trophies such as the match play world championship and the Wells Fargo Championship.

The BMW PGA Championship, which takes place from tomorrow to Sunday at the Wentworth Club in Virginia Water, is the most prestigious tournament on the European Tour and Rory will do everything to live up to her fame and to defend her title. The challengers are the best that the circuit of the old continent can offer, with the exception of the number three in the world, the Swede, Henrik Stenson and the number eight, the Spaniard Sergio Garcia. At the starting tees we find Justin Rose, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, Martin Kaymer, Padraig Harrington, Graeme McDowell, Jamie Donaldson, Victor Dubuisson, just to name a few of international fame.

In this competition, the Italians also boast a winner of the caliber of Matteo Manassero and players in form such as Francesco Molinari, fresh from a good second place a week ago (at the Spanish Open conquered by James Morrison), Edoardo Molinari and Marco Crespi. Unfortunately, for ranking reasons, the very young Renato Paratore, fourth reserve, will not be there. At stake are 5 million dollars and the prospect of entering the firmament of golf. The tournament is broadcast live on Sky Sports.

At the same time in the States a good race is being held like the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonia, in Fort Worth, Texas, with big names. The reigning champion Adam Scott, world number two Jordan Spieth and number two in Fedex Jimmy Walker stand out among others. Up for grabs is $6,5 million for a field of 124 players.
