GM and Coca-Cola, accounts in chiaroscuro

The automaker flies, beating expectations in a difficult moment for the auto market, while the brand of the most famous drink in the world suffers from the strengthening of the dollar and reduces revenues and profits.

GM and Coca-Cola, accounts in chiaroscuro

Accounts in chiaroscuro for two big stars and stripes. General Motors, in a difficult moment for the car market with Toyota grappling with a maxi-recall of 6,5 million cars and Volkswagen embroiled in the Dieselgate, records excellent quarterly results, exceeding analysts' expectations: in the third quarter the US automaker's profit beat the odds on the back of good demand for vans in North America and improving profit margins in China.

The Detroit giant therefore reported profits of 1,4 billion dollars, 84 cents per share, compared to 81 cents per share in the same period last year. Less fortunate the period for Coca-Cola, which closed the third quarter of 2015 with a net earnings per share of 51 cents on a non-gaap basis. In the three months to 2 October last net income passes to 1,45 billion dollars – 33 cents per share – from 2,11 billion (48 cents) a year earlier. Net revenues decreased by almost 5% – 11,43 billion from 11,98 billion a year earlier – penalized by the strengthening of the dollar on the currency market, while on an organic basis the turnover shows an increase of 3%.
