Sports that lengthen life: the first is tennis

Sport is good for you and extends your life. This is certified by a study conducted by the Sydney Medical School and published by the British Journal of Sport Medicine, which also identifies a ranking of the best activities to combat so-called ageing, or simply aging, halving the risk of death: it is tennis, a sport very popular in Italy (despite the absence of top level athletes) and in the world.

The Australian researchers reviewed eleven studies compiled between 1994 and 2008 in England and Scotland, covering a sample of over 80 people with an average age of 52. The result? The subjects were followed up for nine years, during which approximately 10 deaths were recorded. Compared with the proportion of subjects who did not practice sports, the risk of general death was 47% lower for those who practiced racket sports, 28% for swimmers, 27% for those who practiced aerobic activities in the gym, dance inclusive, and 15% among cyclists. As far as deaths from cardiovascular problems are concerned, the study showed a 56% lower risk for tennis players, 41% for swimmers and 36% for those who practice aerobics.
