Giro: Yates triumphs on the Gran Sasso, Froome and Aru in crisis

Simon Yates' pink jersey waves on the Gran Sasso. The British rider of Mitchelton-Scott conquers the ninth stage of the Giro d'Italia with the long uphill finish in Campo Imperatore. He had already been a protagonist on Etna, taking the lead but handing over the stage win to teammate Chaves. This time Yates sprints in the last hundred meters in front of Pinot and Chaves, and takes all the glory. Fourth at 4'' Pozzovivo, Dumoulin loses 12''. Difficult day instead for Froome, who arrives upset at the finish line escorted by his companions, and for Fabio Aru, who loses the wheels of the best in the last 3 km. Yates strengthens his first place in the general standings, now he has a 32'' gap on Chaves and 38'' on Dumoulin. Froome and Aru slip out of the top ten.
