Giro, Nibali attacks on Etna

The Giro d'Italia arrives in Sicily for the fourth stage of the 100th edition, the first mountain stage. Great expectations for the attack of the "Shark", one of the favorites for the final victory. The first real clash between the Sicilian and the Colombian Quintana, a climbing specialist, could take place.

Giro, Nibali attacks on Etna

After the first rest day of the race and after leaving Sardinia, the Giro lands in Sicily. The fourth stage of the 100th edition starts from Cefalù and after 181 km it ends on the slopes of Etna

There are two mountain grand prix, both with an average gradient of 4,5%, even if 18 km from the finish, the runners will have to face an uphill section with a 12% gradient.

All eyes will be on Vincenzo Nibali, the Shark, who has a huge advantage over his opponents: he knows the route, he has studied it and he has tried it, after all Sicily is his land. Quintana however, he can count on a stronger team, with the supporters ready to sweat for him in the first 150 km of the stage and then give him way to be able to attack in the last kilometres, those that lead to the slopes of the volcano.

Almost certainly at the end of the stage the pink jersey will leave the shoulders of Gaviria, and the race will get underway. Nibali is ready to leave his mark, even if Quintana and the French Pinot (third in the 2014 Giro) won't make life easy for him.
