Jan Polanc (UAE Team Emirates) won the fourth stage of the 100th Giro d'Italia, which started from Cefalù (Palermo) and finished after 181 km on Etna. The Slovenian triumphed after a 179 kilometer breakaway, which started with three other riders. It is his second success in the pink race.
Polanc preceded the Russian Ilnur Zakarin (Katusha) by 19" and the group led by the British Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) by 29". Fifth place for Dario Cataldo (Astana), tenth for Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain Merida). But the new pink jersey is the Luxembourgian Bob Jungels (Quick-step Floors).
“I'm really happy, even in 2015 I won in the first uphill finish of the Giro, but today I didn't think I'd finish: the breakaway didn't have a great advantage and in the final I had little energy.
