Giro d'Italia: Nibali triumphs on the Stelvio

Finally Vincenzo Nibali. In the alpine stage, which arrived in Bormio after the ascent of the Mortirolo and the double climb of the Stelvio (first from the Swiss side and then from the Italian one), the Shark of Messina gives Italy the first stage victory in the Giro del Centenario, but above all, the fortunes of the race completely reopened: the Dutchman Tom Dumoulin, who manages to keep the pink jersey, goes into crisis due to a gastrointestinal attack and loses more than two minutes from Nibali.

Third in the Rovetta-Bormio fraction (222 km in total with three first-category mountain grands prix, including Cima Coppi), 12 seconds behind Nibali, is the Colombian Nairo Quintana, who is now second in the general classification at 31 seconds by the Dutchman, while the Italian rider is third, 1 minute and 12 seconds behind the pink jersey. The Giro is reopened more than ever, and there are other mountain stages from here to the finish in Milan next Sunday.
