Giovanni Rana: increases and insurance for employees for work in times of Coronavirus

Nicola Rana, owner of the food giant that bears his name, has decided to make an extraordinary contribution to his employees called to work in times of the coronavirus. The managing director of the Veronese company Gian Luca Rana announced today that he had "launched an extraordinary plan of wage increases, worth 2 million euros, as a special recognition of the commitment of the 700 employees present in the five factories in Italy who are guaranteeing, even in this very difficult moment, continuity in food supplies".

In the note, Nicola Rana's son adds that "Pastificio Rana wants to be at the side of employees and support their families in a moment of great disorientation, not just at work. With this in mind, the measures envisaged include a 25% salary increase for each day worked and an extraordinary monthly ticket of 400 euros for babysitting expenses".

The plan informs the company "runs retroactively from March 9 and will also cover the month of April". Gian Luca Rana has also decided "to take out an insurance policy in favor of all employees of the Pastificio Rana, including those in smart working, in the event of contagion from Covid-19, to supplement the strengthening of the safety and prevention procedures already in place implemented by the company to deal with the emergency in progress”.

The decision of the Rana pasta factory was greeted with laudatory words by the Minister for Agricultural and Forestry Policies Teresa Bellanova.

“I recently concluded a phone call with Gian Luca Rana, who together with his father Giovanni runs the Rana pasta factory. I wanted to thank him and express my strong appreciation for the choice of great humanity and social responsibility made today towards his 700 employees. As a special recognition for their commitment to guaranteeing supplies and the continuation of production, Gian Luca has in fact foreseen wage increases and social protection measures for his employees, including babysitter bonuses and insurance policies in the event of contagion, with an extraordinary plan worth 2 million euros.

A high economic cost for the company - concludes the note - which however "reflects great care and attention towards one's community and the strong awareness that if we really want to build the common good, we can only do it together".
