Jewels, record for an 18,96-carat pink diamond: its history

The pink color has always caused researchers to disagree on what really causes the natural pink color in diamonds, while experts in gemology conclude that there are two types of diamonds pink , each with a slight and different color. One, designated as type IIA, has a distinct pink color and lack of inclusions. Type IIA are rare gems from a diamond family, which have no traces of nitrogen. The absence of this element, seen in 98% of diamonds, gives the stone a purity of color and degree of transparency that is observed only in the best native stones from the mines of Golconda, Brazil and South Africa.

The other type of pink diamond is type IA, they are smaller in size, highly included and the color is usually diffused within the stone. These gems come from Australian mines.

It is the definition of the diamond's color grade, intensity, clarity of and saturation that plays a role in the importance of the diamond. If the intensity of the pink is saturated the stone will be given a special color designation. Within the American Gemological Institute's grading system, pink diamonds are classified as faint, very light, light, fancy light, fancy deep, fancy, fancy intense, and fancy vivid. Also, many pink diamonds are modified with other colors such as brown, orange or purple. The Pink Legacy Diamond has a pure and constant pink tint, and maximum color intensity, designates it as a 'fantasy vivid Pink'. THE Carat 18.96 of the Pink Legacy diamond VS1 in clarity, it has a truly magnificent color distribution due to its size and the absence of inclusions within the crystal. The cut is also extraordinary, particularly in pink, the cuts of this shape are very difficult. If not calculated correctly, the soft color can be masked or may even disappear completely. The stone must be cut to maximize color. The excellent stone features a rectangular-cornered cut, a vivid cut in a pink gemstone never seen at auction. In nearly 250 years of auction history, only four pink diamonds over ten carats have appeared for an auction sale. An historic award was achieved in an international auction of Christie's in November 2017 for a vivid pink fancy, oval-shape diamond just under 15 carats for $2,175,519 per carat, which established and remains in the auction world the highest price per carat for any pink diamond.

The first writing we find in reference to diamonds is mentioned in the book of exodus and in another ancient document. Throughout the Middle Ages, gemstones were believed to have magical healing powers and as such were a source of debate, interest and hope. Diamonds were considered extremely powerful, capable both of protecting but also of destroying. Additionally diamonds held the power to win battles and communicate strength, beauty and long life. Jeans-baptiste Tavernier (1605-1689) wrote detailed information about his travels between India and France. In his The six travel published in paris in 1676, it introduced his astonishing adventures to europe. In addition to his adventures, the book contains many illustrations of gemstones he found, many of which he sold to Louis XIV, Re Sun. Tavernier is perhaps best known for bringing back from the Indus two extraordinary stones: the koh-io-noor and the Hope diamont.

The next century sees India as a competitive market, but only for the price. While nearly 17 million carats of diamonds came from mines in Brazil between 1725 and 1870, making this country the largest producer of diamonds until South Africa was discovered there in the mid-19th century. It was the discovery of two boys that sparked a dramatic interest, which led to the South African diamond fever. The mines of South Africa, With pink diamond mines soon became the most prolific place in the whole world and still are today. There were also mine discoveries in Russia and Canada and Australia. Discoveries in Australia were recorded early, as early as 1851 with gems from the mine Argyle which in 1985 became an important place of interest. Gemstones in Argyle are usually quite small in size and the crystals are usually flawed with blemishes. Most of these stones are used for industry. However, this mine, noted for its unusual assortment of pink and purple diamonds, brought public awareness to the unparalleled beauty and rarity of colored diamonds.
