Giarda: the expenditure of the ministries will drop by 13 billion in two years

Between 2012 and 2013 spending by Italian ministries will drop by 13 billion. Piero Giarda, minister for relations with Parliament and responsible for the "spending review", told the newspaper "Il Messaggero". The report will be presented to the Council of Ministers by the end of the month.

The table on the central government income statement contained in the Def indicates a reduction of current spending from 352 to 342 billion within this year. The figure will drop further, to 339 billion, in 2013.

Giarda underlined that "when it comes to moving from projects to deeds, a real and proper task force will be needed", adding however that he had "full collaboration from ministers and ministerial structures".

On the same front, the Minister of the Interior, Anna Maria Cancellieri, he said in an interview with "Corriere della Sera" that he wanted reduce civilian employees of the Viminale by 10%. “thanks to a slide, an early retirement, without trauma”.

At that point, “instead of rehiring a quota equal to 30% of the personnel, as we could do in abstract terms with the amount saved – continued Cancellieri -, we will rehiring only 10%. The rest of the money would be set aside. I'm ready: if the government gives me the go-ahead, I'll go to the unions”.
