Japan, McDonald's pushes on home delivery

The Japanese subsidiary of food group McDonald's has announced it will increase the number of restaurants offering home delivery service to 1.500.. The president of the Japanese branch, Eiko Harada, has in fact revealed the plan to add, by the end of the year, 250 restaurants to the number of those offering this service. According to "Sankei Shimbun", the president believes that the number of traditional shops is decreasing in Japan.

"More and more consumers prefer to take home ready meals rather than buy food products," continued Harada. “We believe that the home delivery service will be increasingly used and we want to be one step ahead”. McDonald's Japanese subsidiary reports a 17,8% drop in January-September profits to 17,7 billion yen. The group said it has been forced to close unprofitable restaurants and has plans to ramp up drive-through stores in suburban areas.
