Japan: Hackers can attack the toilet

Japanese high-tech toilets are famous for offering a range of services, such as fragrance, background music, automatic seat lift, intimate shower and so on – The latest model of Satis can be controlled via mobile phone from an Android application – The problem is that any mobile phone with the My Satis application can activate it

Among the many 'cyber-guerillas' that dot the planet, one of the most original, even if basically less harmful, is the one that describes the hacker attacks on that particular technological platform which are the Japanese high-tech toilets.

Famous for offering a variety of services, such as fragrance, warm air heating, background music, automatic seat lift, intimate shower and so on. They haven't had much luck as an export item, probably for complex cultural reasons, but they are very popular in Japan. And the latest in high-tech 'thrones' is Satis: the latest model can be controlled via smart phone from an Android application called My Satis. It works via Bluetooth and the pin code, which cannot be changed, is '0000'. Any mobile phone that has the My Satis application can activate it. So if you're in the bathroom and you notice the toilet seat moving up and down on its own, or a flush starting or the music playing, it means that some neighbor (Bluetooth has limited range) is having fun at your expenses.

The conclusion of Trustware - a company specializing in computer security - is that even manufacturers of technological toilets must start to worry about computer intrusions.
