Japan, after Fukushima Tokyo returns to nuclear power

The new Japanese premier, Shinzo Abe, announced the construction of new reactors less than two years after the Fukushima disaster: "They will be completely different from those that caused the crisis".

Fukushima did not change Japan's mind. Less than two years after the nuclear disaster that threw the country into chaos, the new Japanese premier, Shinzo Abe, has announced the construction of new reactors.

Precisely during a visit to Fukushima, Abe said he intends to authorize the construction of the structures despite the very serious accident following the earthquake and tsunami of March 2011.

"The new reactors will be completely different from those of the Daiichi plant in Fukushima which caused the crisis", said the Premier, who therefore intends to block the previous government's plan, aimed at reducing the country's dependence on nuclear energy, which before the accident guaranteed 30% of national consumption.

“The Daiichi plant was unable to secure the energy source after the tsunami, while the Daini plant in Fukushima managed to do it and we must appreciate this difference,” concluded Abe.
