Japan ran a trade deficit for the 24th consecutive month in June. In the first half of the year, the Rising Sun set its absolute record since 1979 – i.e. since comparable data exist – reaching 7.598 billion yen (55,5 billion euro). The increase compared to the same period last year is 57,9%.
The red between imports and exports in June was 822,2 billion yen, beating the expectations of economists, who had forecast 642,9 billion. Analysts had also estimated a 1% increase in exports, which instead fell by 2%. Expectations were satisfied only with regard to imports, which recorded a +8,4%.
